Cheek Augmentation - Cosmetic Surgery
Los Angeles, Pasadena, Covina, Arcadia, & Hollywood, California
If you are interested in changing your look with facial cosmetic surgery, cheek implants offer a dramatic and permanent solution to sunken cheeks. The cheek augmentation procedure lifts the mid-face area and gives the appearance of high cheekbones, a traditional symbol of beauty that has withstood the test of time. Cheek implants can be used to replace facial volume lost as a side effect of aging, or for younger patients who simply aren’t happy with their cheekbone structure.
Goals of Cheek Augmentation
Los Angeles cosmetic surgeon Dr. Martin O’Toole recommends cheek implants as a tool to create aesthetic balance in your face. Strong cheekbones can help you look younger and downplay other features such as a prominent nose. If you’ve experienced massive weight loss, cheek implants work well to fill in the sunken cheeks commonly accompanied by slimming down. In some cases, additional procedures such as lip augmentation and chin augmentation can further enhance your overall results and help you look and feel beautiful.
We’ll give you the opportunity to view many before and after photos of cheek implant patients to help you better understand how cheek definition can transform your appearance.
Cheek Implant Types
There are two main types of cheek implants. Solid cheek implants are crafted from silicone and are freestanding under the skin, meaning they will move around when touched. Porous cheek implants are most often created from polyethylene and are fixed in place, but usually require a larger incision.
During your initial consultation, Dr. Martin O’Toole will explain the differences between these options and let you feel the textures to help you make a decision. He will also recommend the ideal size to create the volume you want while still maintaining a natural look.
Placing Cheek Implants
Dr. O’Toole will do a thorough analysis of your facial structure and use a mapping technique to pinpoint areas where symmetry can be improved. Incisions are then made on either the inside of the upper lip or in the lower eyelid, both of which conceal any scarring.
After the incision, our cosmetic surgeon creates a pocket in the tissue and gently slides the implant in place. He will insert cheek implants into either the malar region (the outer cheek) or the submalar region (the mid-cheek area) depending on your unique physical characteristics and aesthetic goals. In some cases, sutures may be used to hold the implant firmly in place.
Any bruising and swelling should subside within a few days of the surgery, but be sure to follow Dr. O’Toole’s instructions for post-operative care to ensure proper healing. Low-impact activities can be resumed within a few days, but you will need to avoid high-impact movements that could strain the cheeks or incision sites for 3-4 weeks.
