Eyelid Surgery - Blepharoplasty Surgeon

Los Angeles, Pasadena, Covina, Arcadia, & Hollywood, California

The shape of the eyelids dramatically affects the shape of the eyes. Unfortunately, as people age, their upper eyelids may droop and puffy bags may appear below the eyes, contributing to a tired or angry appearance. Our blepharoplasty surgeon, Dr. O’Toole, can remove excess eyelid skin and fat to restore a more youthful and refreshed look to the eyes, all while keeping the look subtle and natural.

Am I a Candidate for Eyelid Surgery?

Eyelid surgery is an excellent option for anyone who would like to reverse the signs of aging in in their eyes and eliminate the tired appearance associated with droopy eyelids. Ideal candidates are in good overall health, have realistic expectations for the outcome of the procedure, and experience one or more of the following:

  • Excess sagging skin on the upper eyelid that potentially interferes with vision
  • Excess skin on the upper eyelid which hides the skin above your eyelashes
  • Wrinkling on the upper eyelid which makes you look older or more fatigued than you actually are
  • Puffiness or bags under your lower eyelids
  • Excess skin and wrinkles on the lower eyelids

It is important to discuss your medical history with Dr. O’Toole in great detail. Certain medical conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, or glaucoma may increase your risk of complications.

Your Blepharoplasty Procedure

Dr. O’Toole performs your blepharoplasty procedure by making tiny incisions along the natural creases in the eyelids or on the inside of the lower eyelid, leaving no visible scar. Through these incisions, Dr. O’Toole removes the unwanted skin and fat, creating an optimally youthful and natural appearance. The incisions are then closed. Older patients with loose lower eyelids may require lower lid tightening as well.

Often, Dr. O’Toole will recommend brow lift surgery in conjunction with eyelid surgery for enhanced results.

The recovery period for eyelid surgery is not extensive, and you will most likely be able to read and watch television within a few days after the procedure. Within a week, you should be able to return to work and use makeup to hide any remaining signs of surgery. This relatively minor cosmetic procedure can make a vast improvement in your overall appearance and produce stunning facial rejuvenation.
