BOTOX® Cosmetic
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a safe and effective solution for troublesome lines and wrinkles that form on the forehead or near the eyes, nose, mouth, or other areas of the face as a result of the natural aging process. Because of its ability to deliver remarkably youthful results, BOTOX® Cosmetic is among the most sought-after injectable treatments offered at our practice.
BOTOX® medication is made from a diluted form of botulinum toxin type A, a neuromuscular toxin that paralyzes the muscles. This FDA-approved solution temporarily relaxes facial muscles, smoothing out wrinkles on the overlying skin. In addition, it keeps new wrinkles from forming in the area. Treatment results in a smoother and more youthful complexion that can be seen a few days after the procedure and lasts for up to six months. Restylane®
Dr. O'Toole also provides Restylane® injections, a popular treatment for patients who wish to smooth out facial wrinkles and add moisture to the skin. Restylane® is a biodegradable gel made of hyaluronic acid, a substance that is found naturally in the body. Hyaluronic acid helps to cushion soft tissue by filling in the gaps between elastin and collagen fibers. As we get older, the amount of hyaluronic acid in the body depletes. This lack of hyaluronic acid is what contributes to the appearance of lines and wrinkles on the skin. Restylane® temporarily restores these levels and gives the patient a more youthful appearance. In addition, Restylane® injections can be used to augment the lips, cheeks, chin, and other areas on the face, giving them more definition.
After treatment with Restylane®, patients may experience slight swelling, bruising, and redness, which should disappear within 24 hours, around the injection site. Results from treatment can last up to one year. JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel
JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel is made of naturally occurring hyaluronic acid that plumps up the skin, effectively smoothing out unsightly facial lines and wrinkles without the risk of allergic reaction. JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel can be used around the forehead, eyes, nose, and mouth, and it can even be used to add volume to the lips and cheeks and give the patient a more contoured appearance. In addition, JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel can be used to temporarily fill in facial scars caused by acne and other conditions. Because JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel is absorbed very slowly by the body, results are long-lasting. Patients can benefit from smooth, supple skin for up to one year.
After treatment with JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel, patients may experience some redness, bruising, or swelling at the injection site. However, these minor side effects dissipate rather quickly. JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel can be combined with other procedures at our practice, including blepharoplasty, chemical peels, and more.
Radiesse®
Radiesse® is a relatively new injectable treatment used to treat deep smile lines, marionette lines, and nasolabial folds around the nose and mouth, producing a soft and natural look. It is also used to temporarily improve the contours of the chin, cheeks, and other areas of the face. Radiesse® is made of calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres suspended in a water-based gel solution. Calcium hydroxylapatite is a natural substance found in the body that helps to smooth out the appearance of wrinkles and promote collagen production in the skin, restoring the face's youthfulness and definition. Because it is made of a naturally occurring substance, there is no risk of an allergic reaction occurring.
The youth-extending effects of Radiesse® can be seen almost immediately and last up to two years. Some redness and swelling may occur at the injection site, but this should go away shortly after treatment. Patients can combine Radiesse® with other injectables, such as BOTOX® Cosmetic or Restylane® treatment. Radiesse® can also be used as a complement to the facial plastic surgery procedures or non-surgical treatments that we offer to produce a complete cosmetic makeover.
ArteFill®
ArteFill® is the first and only permanent wrinkle filler on the market approved by the FDA. Also going by the name of Artecoll®, ArteFill® can treat the appearance of wrinkles prevalent in the nose and mouth areas. ArteFill® uses polymethylmethacrylate beads that are suspended in bovine collagen, which in turn stimulate the body's natural production of collagen. As the injection of ArteFill® degrades, it become replaced by the body's natural collagen, allowing for permanent results.
Facial Fat Transfer
For patients who wish to transform the their faces but are not ready for invasive procedures such as facelift, rhinoplasty, and brow lift surgery, Dr. O'Toole provides facial fat transfer to produce a younger-looking and more defined appearance. Also known as microlipoinjections, facial fat transfer involves using a patient's own fat to fill in wrinkles and add more volume to various areas of the face such as the lips or the region under the eyes. It is also an effective and minimally invasive alternative to traditional chin augmentation and cheek augmentation surgery. In addition, facial fat transfer can be used to fill in facial scars and other depressions, endowing the patient with a more even complexion.
During the facial fat transfer procedure, liposuction techniques are used to collect fat cells from other areas of the body, usually from the abdomen, hips, or thighs. The cells are then cleaned and injected into targeted areas of the face to produce more aesthetically pleasing contours. Results from facial fat transfer performed at our Pasadena practice tend to last longer than those from BOTOX® Cosmetic, Restylane®, and our other injectables because the treatment uses the patient's own fat tissue. Because of this, many patients choose to combine treatment with the other injectable treatments we offer, allowing them to enjoy enhanced results.
