Your recovery from rhinoplasty will depend on your body’s natural ability to heal, your willingness to follow all of Dr. Martin O’Toole’s postoperative advice, and the rhinoplasty technique that was required to produce your desired results. The entire recovery process can take several months. However, you should be able to resume many of your normal activities much faster than that.

Recovery Timeline

Within the first 24 to 48 hours following rhinoplasty you may experience some discomfort. Mild pain medications are often sufficient to deal with this issue. During this time, bruising and swelling will develop. Swelling should subside within a few days, but bruising may be present for two or more weeks. In addition, nasal congestion and blackness around the eyes is not uncommon during the first weeks or even months of your recovery.

Work can generally be resumed within seven days, but strenuous labor or exercise may need to be avoided for up to six weeks. This varies from patient to patient and will need to be discussed with Dr. O’Toole before your procedure. Most patients can see results as soon as nasal packing and casting have been removed. Your results will continue to develop as swelling and bruising diminish, with final results generally apparent around month six.
