Breast Lift
Los Angeles, Pasadena, Covina, Arcadia, & Hollywood, California
Time takes a toll on the breasts, and many women begin to find that their once-perky busts are beginning to droop and show signs of age. At Pasadena Cosmetic Surgery, residents of Los Angeles, Arcadia, Covina, and Hollywood can undergo breast lift surgery with expert breast surgeon Dr. Martin O'Toole to restore a firm, shapely bust. Many of our patients choose to combine a breast lift with breast augmentation to enjoy an even more dramatic enhancement. If you are ready to revitalize your appearance, consider exploring a breast lift with Dr. O'Toole.
Candidates for Breast Lift
The best candidates for breast lift are healthy adult women over the age of 18 who want to address stretched breast skin and lost breast volume. Breast lift surgery is particularly popular with women who are unhappy with the aesthetic effects of a recent pregnancy. It is also popular as a part of post-bariatric plastic surgery for those who have recently lost a large amount of weight.
Women who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding, or who plan to breastfeed in the future, should not undergo a breast lift because there is a chance that the surgery could make breastfeeding impossible. Women who plan to lose significant weight should also wait to have the breast lift operation until their weight has stabilized.
Breast Lift Surgery and Recovery
At Pasadena Cosmetic Surgery, your breast lift is performed under general anesthesia in state-of-the-art surgical facilities. Your breast lift can be performed using two different kinds of incisions. The standard breast lift incision is an anchor-shaped incision much like that used in breast reduction. This incision runs around the areola, down the underside of the breast, and then along the inframammary fold where the breast connects to the chest. Women who need less extensive treatment can choose a donut incision, which runs only around the areola and causes less scarring. Along the incision, Dr. O'Toole removes excess skin and repositions the nipple. Breast implants can typically be placed through the same opening. Finally, Dr. O'Toole closes the incision with sutures to complete the breast lift.
Recovery times for breast lift patients vary depending on the type of incision used. Patients who have a standard breast lift incision should expect to take at least a week off from work. During the first two weeks of recovery, it is normal to experience some discomfort, which can be controlled with pain medication. It is important to avoid sleeping on your stomach for this period, as this can cause complications during healing. Some patients also experience temporary numbness in the nipples during this time, which occasionally returns to normal. It often takes a month or more for the swelling and bruising associated with the surgery to fade, revealing your final results. Though this seems like a long time, the vast majority of our breast lift patients are ultimately very pleased with their results.
