According to The Los Angeles Times A national study published Wednesday finds that men with diabetes are 24 percent more likely to develop colon cancer than those without diabetes. The same risk didn't apply to women.

Previous studies have demonstrated a link between type 2 diabetes and an increased risk of colon cancer — but this study finds that men seem to be at greater risk than women

For nearly two decades, scientists have been pursing the links between diabetes and all types of cancer — from pancreatic cancer to liver cancer, breast cancer, renal cancer and colon cancer.

There appears to be a link between diabetes and colon cancer. Earlier this year, a research team from the Mayo Clinic announced that they had found that older women with diabetes face a more than doubled risk for some types of colorectal cancer.

Dr. O'Toole explains to his male patients the importance of regular health screenings. It is also important for men to be mindful of their appearance. In a society that values youthful looks it is easy as a man to downplay the effects aging can have on the face. Typically, loose skin on the eyelids and a wrinkled brow can create a tired and angry look. Dr. O'Toole recommends a brow lift and blepharoplasty to restore the forehead and create a more open and wide-eyed look. This procedure has a relatively short recovery time and most patients look considerably younger than their stated age after the procedure.
