3 Minute Read:

Liposuction has been a mainstay in plastic surgery for decades. However, just because the procedure has been around for years doesn’t mean that it can’t be improved on.

During the early days of the procedure, liposuction could be difficult or even painful. Luckily, advancements have led to major developments in liposuction technology, and patients can now remove stubborn fat from their bodies with less hassle, pain, and downtime.

This blog will take a look at liposuction surgery, including its benefits, and three liposuction options that can help you achieve the thinner and more contoured appearance you desire.

What Are the Benefits of Liposuction?

Liposuction is one of the most trusted and effective cosmetic procedures available today. With this surgery, stubborn, subcutaneous fat is literally vacuumed out of your body, which can leave you with a more trim and defined appearance, including curves in all the right places.

Not only can this procedure benefit you physically, but you can feel more comfortable and confident after your liposuction surgery.

Liposuction can be performed on many different areas of the body, including the abdomen, thighs, arms, chest, and back.

What makes liposuction even more beneficial is that it can be performed as a standalone procedure, or it can be combined with other cosmetic procedures to give you stunning results that can help transform how you look and feel.

What Are Your Liposuction Options?

Below are three of the liposuction techniques that Dr. Martin O’Toole and Dr. Adam O’Toole are proud to offer their patients:

Traditional Liposuction

During traditional liposuction, a cannula (a thin tool) is inserted into the surgical area to loosen subcutaneous fat, making it easier to suction out with the liposuction machine.

One of the drawbacks of traditional liposuction is that it requires your plastic surgeon to make forceful back and forth motions with the cannula to dislodge the stubborn fat tissue.

Power-assisted Liposuction

With power-assisted liposuction (PAL), a tumescent saline solution is injected into the treatment area to loosen the fat, making it easier to remove. After the solution is injected, the PAL wand is used to remove the unwanted fat.

In addition to the tumescent solution, what makes power-assisted liposuction such a great option for patients is that the PAL wand vibrates, which means that there is no need for the forceful back and forth motions of the cannula that is used for traditional liposuction.

Because of this, PAL tends to be a much easier and less painful procedure for patients.

Laser-Assisted Liposuction

Laser-assisted liposuction (Smartlipo®) uses lasers to liquefy the fat, making it much easier to remove from the body. What makes Smartlipo® stand out from the others is that the laser energy stimulates collagen production, which results in tighter and smoother skin. Additionally, because lasers are used to destroy fat cells, more fat can be removed than with traditional liposuction.

What Is the Best Liposuction Option for You?

As with any cosmetic surgery, the specific details of your liposuction (including the technique used) vary with each patient and procedure. This is why your consultation is so important. At your consultation, your plastic surgeon will evaluate your condition and talk with you about your specific aesthetic goals to determine which liposuction technique is right for you.
