Pouring wine into a glass It has been a long-held belief that a glass of wine or a nice stiff drink is just the thing to give a person a great night of sleep. A new report disputes that belief. Dr. O’Toole advises patients who are scheduled for procedures including both surgical and nonsurgical to abstain from alcohol prior to their procedure. Some patients have gotten so comfortable with injectables including BOTOX® Cosmetic and fillers that they think it is okay to relax with a few glasses of wine prior to their procedure. This is not advisable and patients are discouraged from doing so. Surgical procedures including those performed in office like Smartlipo require patients to follow the same instructions with regard to alcohol. The best results are most likely when patients are healthy and well rested prior to surgery. According to ABC7 a new study has found that alcohol interferes with the restorative functions of sleep. Researchers gave healthy male university students alcoholic beverages before bed. Their findings: drinking leads to insomnia rather than good sleep.

That includes difficulty getting to sleep, early-morning awakening, lack of a sense of deep sleep and difficulty maintaining sleep.
