3 Minute Read:

Giving birth is something many women look forward to; however, the unfortunate reality is that pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding can change a woman’s body and leave her with sagging skin and unwanted pockets of fat in various areas of the body. What’s even more frustrating is that these cosmetic concerns are often unaffected by natural diet and exercise.

This is where plastic surgery can help.

A Mommy Makeover is a customizable combination procedure that helps transform and tone a woman’s body after she’s had one or more children (or undergone significant weight loss).

This procedure helps to address these various cosmetic concerns to help women achieve a pre-baby body and improve their confidence.

What Procedures Make Up a Mommy Makeover?

No two women have the same exact body, nor do they have the same aesthetic concerns after childbearing

Because of this, your Mommy Makeover surgery will be customized to meet your specific needs and cosmetic goals.

Since pregnancy and childbirth affect multiple areas of the body, a Mommy Makeover combines any number of breast procedures and body procedures, including:

How to Prepare for a Mommy Makeover?

A Mommy Makeover is an extensive procedure that requires planning and consideration from the patient and their plastic surgeon. The goal of this procedure is to improve a woman’s appearance so that she can look as fit or better than she did before having children.

Because of the complexity of the procedure, it is important to choose the right time for your Mommy Makeover.

What to Consider Before the Procedure

One of the most important things to consider when preparing for a Mommy Makeover is whether you are planning on having more children.

Mommy Makeover surgery can help you achieve your aesthetic goals, whether you’ve had one child or multiple children. However, if you undergo this procedure and then become pregnant again, then you will likely see some or all of your cosmetic improvements get erased. You should also have finished breastfeeding (for at least six months) before you schedule your surgery.

By undergoing your Mommy Makeover after you’ve finished having children, you can maximize your aesthetic improvements so that you can get the most out of your procedure.

In addition to being finished having children, it is important to be physically ready for your Mommy Makeover. Despite misconceptions, cosmetic surgery procedures (like liposuction and tummy tuck surgery) are not weight loss procedures, which means that you should be near your ideal weight before you undergo your Mommy Makeover.

What to Know About After the Procedure

While the length of Mommy Makeover recovery will vary between patients and is dependent on the types of procedures performed and the extent of correction needed, most women will need anywhere between four and six weeks to recover, with two weeks of initial downtime (away from all necessary activities, including work).

You should schedule your Mommy Makeover when you can take off the needed to properly recover. Whenever you choose to have your Mommy Makeover, you will need to make sure that you have the necessary support (from your partner, family, or friends) to help you and your child(ren) during your Mommy Makeover recovery period.
