BOTOX® CosmeticWhen BOTOX® Cosmetic was first introduced for cosmetic purposes, it took the cosmetic world by storm. Millions of patients have used it to fight off wrinkles. Now that BOTOX® Cosmetic has a competitor, patients are questioning which product works best. Dr. O’Toole stresses to his injectable patients the importance of the skill and qualifications of the injector. As the market has become extremely competitive, it is easy to bounce from special to special. Injectables including BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport®, and fillers have varying levels of success that are highly dependent on the expertise of Dr. O’Toole. As a board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. O’Toole has been trained extensively in the muscular anatomy of the face. What this means to patients is that as a surgeon, he is keenly aware of each and every muscle, how it should perform, and what happens when it is altered. Patients should ask Dr. O’Toole which injectable is best for them based on his experience and expertise. According to KTLA 5, BOTOX® Cosmetic has been the reigning, if unofficial, monarch of cosmetic procedures for nearly a decade. But its claim to the beauty throne is being rattled this week by a study in which patients thought another brand of botulinum toxin, the BOTOX® Cosmetic competitor Dysport®, smoothed their “crow’s feet” wrinkles a bit better.

In a randomized, double-blind face-off funded by the makers of Dysport®, patients received injections of BOTOX® Cosmetic on one side of the face and injections of Dysport® on the other. The substances were applied to the muscles that close the eyelids.
