Weight scaleThe effects of dieting beyond losing weight can be very damaging. This not only applies to your health but also to your appearance. Dr. O’Toole explains to patients after having surgeries including abdominoplasty, liposuction, or breast augmentation that weight gain can affect their results after surgery. Patients who have body contouring procedures sometime mistakenly believe that they will not gain weight. The truth is the remaining fat cells can be overpowered and the patient will gain weight. Breast augmentation patients can also change the size and shape of their breasts with as little as a 5 to 10 pound weight gain. The best plan for good health is to maintain a stable weight. According to My Fox Los Angeles, dieting causes brain cells to start eating bits of themselves, scientists claimed Wednesday. Researchers at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Yeshiva University in New York found that like other parts of the body, hunger-inducing neurons in the brain begin to consume themselves in periods of starvation.

The process, known as autophagy, causes the body to respond by generating fatty acids that feed the hunger signals in the brain and increase the body’s desire to eat.

The findings could advance weight-loss treatments, the researchers wrote in the journal Cell Metabolism.
