During the summertime in Los Angeles, swimming is simply a daily part of many people’s lives. However, swimming immediately following breast surgery can have a negative impact on your results. Los Angeles breast surgeon Dr. Martin O’Toole will discuss this with you in more detail during your initial consultation.

Resuming Normal Activities

How long you need to wait to go swimming following breast surgery will depend on a number of factors. Your body’s natural healing ability will play a role, how well you follow Dr. O’Toole’s postoperative instructions will as well, so too will the type of breast surgery you have had.

Some women may be able to start swimming and other normal activities within three to four weeks. For others it may be closer to eight. Dr. O’Toole will work closely with you to help you determine when it is best to resume physical activities following your procedure.

It is important to remember that feeling up to swimming is not the same as being sufficiently healed to take a dip. Waiting until your body is ready to take up normal activities will help ensure the fastest recovery and most pleasing results.
