Old woman smilingAs the aging process takes hold of all of us we look at different parts of our body and wonder why they look so different. A recent USA Today article suggested that your nose could in fact be telling your age. According to the article patients according to one study can look 1.5 years younger after having rhinoplasty or cosmetic nasal surgery. “The face does look younger after getting a rhinoplasty. It’s just a nice surprise that goes along with the surgery,” said the study plastic surgeon. He added that the study findings could turn a seeming anti-aging effect into one of rhinoplasty’s selling points. Other plastic surgeons interviewed for the story doubted that a rhinoplasty would have an antiaging effect. Most of them equated the more youthful and confident look with a happier patient who; therefore, looks more youthful. Dr. O’Toole cautions patients who believe that a rhinoplasty will make them look younger, not to place all of the benefit in that belief. Patient should also understand that if they are considering facial rejuvenation procedures such as a facelift, a rhinoplasty is typically not advised to be performed at the same time. Patient should also be aware that antiaging for the face consist of many different options including injectables, laser resurfacing, and for some patients chin augmentation. Patient should discuss their concerns and desires in detail with Dr. O’Toole to help determine if rhinoplasty is a procedure that will meet their needs and expectations.
