There are two rhinoplasty techniques utilized by Los Angeles facial plastic surgeon Dr. Martin O’Toole:
- Closed rhinoplasty – Incisions are made on the inside of the nostrils
- Open rhinoplasty – Incisions are made on the inside of the nostrils and along the columella, the skin separating the nostrils
The type of incision required for your rhinoplasty will depend on the issues being addressed and your aesthetic goals.
Once Dr. Martin O’Toole has made the appropriate incision, the soft tissue of your nose will be gently lifted. This allows Dr. O’Toole to reshape the underlying structure of your nose. Reshaping may include a reduction or augmentation of cartilage depending on your unique needs. After ideal contours have been created, Dr. O’Toole will redrape nasal skin and tissue, and close the incisions.
Rhinoplasty can be used to correct issues such as nose size, tip, profile, and asymmetry. While all rhinoplasty surgeries have similar procedural steps, the exact technique used will be customized based on your unique anatomy and aesthetic goals. During your initial consultation, Dr. O’Toole can discuss how your rhinoplasty will be performed and all that will be included in the reshaping of your nose.
