Scientists say it’s possible the brain may actually fall asleep for a split second, even though it feels like you’re awake.

After conducting a study on rats, scientists found when exhausted, parts of the brain could fall asleep for as short as a third of a second, while other parts remained active.

Researchers say the results have far-reaching implications, especially for people who work at jobs where lack of sleep could be dangerous.
