Another diet drug denied FDA approval

Qnexa is a combination of two existing drugs, phentermine and topiramate. In July, an advisory committee to the FDA voted against approval of the product, so Thursday's denial was not a surprise. However, in an investors' conference call Friday, officials for Vivus said they are "encouraged" they can satisfy the agency's concerns.

According to The LosAngeles Times, girls are starting puberty earlier, studies show, and some researchers speculate that rising obesity rates might be a factor. A new study finds there may be a link between early puberty and girls living in higher-income households without a biological father.
